Overview
Disco AI is not a single feature. It is a centralized settings area where admins turn on member-facing AI search, manage what content the AI can reference, configure channel-monitoring behaviors, and discover AI-powered tools. The capabilities available depend on what is enabled for your workspace. Without this hub, AI settings would be scattered across unrelated pages.Access Disco AI
Go to Admin > Disco AI in the sidebar. The Disco AI main page
The main page gives you a capabilities overview. At the top, a data-policy banner confirms that your content is not used to train AI models. Below that, capability cards represent each AI feature available in your workspace. The cards you see depend on what is enabled. Most workspaces include four: Ask AI, Learning Design, Community Engagement, and Utilities.Ask AI
Ask AI is the member-facing search and answer experience. Members use it to ask questions based on the content and sources they have permission to access.Enable Ask AI
- From the main Disco AI page, find the Ask AI card.
- Toggle Ask AI on.
- A confirmation modal explains that Ask AI will appear in the Academy header for all members.
- If your workspace has a For You hero block, you will see an option to also add Ask AI there. This is a separate step and is not enabled automatically.
Configure Ask AI
Click Edit on the Ask AI card to open the settings drawer. The drawer has three tabs: Details, Sources, and Analytics. Details tab The details tab includes:- Nickname: the name members see for Ask AI in the interface
- Global suggested prompts: prompts that appear when a member opens the global Ask AI input or accesses it through the For You hero block
- Content suggested prompts: pre-generated prompts that appear at the end of content to help members continue exploring a topic
Learning Design
Learning Design is the AI capability for course creation and content generation. Admins use it to set default source preferences for AI-assisted learning-design workflows.Configure Learning Design
Click Edit on the Learning Design card to open the settings drawer. Details tab The details tab describes the two tools this capability powers:- Curriculum Generator: builds a curriculum outline with modules and objectives based on a topic you provide
- Content Generator: generates lesson content based on a topic you provide
Community Engagement
Community Engagement AI helps admins monitor channels and surface suggestions for replies, messages, and posts. This capability covers several tools rather than a single always-on behavior.Configure Community Engagement
Click Edit on the Community Engagement card to open the settings drawer. Details tab The details tab is where you configure which channels Disco AI monitors. Settings include:- Disco channels to monitor: the channels where you want AI to surface suggested replies and messages
- Slack channels to monitor: Slack channels to include if your workspace is integrated with Slack
- Slack admin channel: the Slack channel where Disco AI routes suggested answers to questions asked in monitored Slack channels
Community Engagement tools
The Community Engagement drawer covers the following features:- Suggested Channel Replies: surfaces editable reply suggestions for questions in monitored channels
- Suggested Messages: recommends conversation starters for monitored channels
- Message Generator: writes a reply from a prompt you provide
- Suggested Posts: proposes ideas or draft posts to keep the Academy active
- Post Generator: creates full feed posts from a prompt you provide
Important rules for Community Engagement
To stop suggestions from appearing in a channel, remove that channel from the monitored list in the settings drawer. There is no separate toggle to pause suggestions for an individual channel. Slack monitoring requires a designated Slack admin channel. Suggested answers to questions asked in monitored Slack channels are routed to the admin channel, not posted directly into the monitored channel. If you select a private Slack channel for monitoring, Disco AI will warn you that information from that private space may inform answers surfaced outside of it. Review this carefully before adding private channels.Utilities
Utilities is a catalog of task-specific AI helpers. These are not always-on features. Most are tools you discover here and then use in context elsewhere in the product. Click View on the Utilities card to open the drawer. Tools listed may include:- Image Generator: creates custom images from a text prompt
- Quiz Generator: builds assessments from course material
- Write with AI: accessible via /** in any editor to generate text inline
- Time Estimates: calculates estimated completion time for a lesson based on its content
- Video Transcription, Chapters & Summaries: generates transcripts, chapter markers, and summaries from uploaded videos
- Suggested Actions from Reports: surfaces engagement-based recommendations from member activity data
- Community Description: generates a description of your Academy based on existing content and data
Sources
Sources is where you manage the pool of material that AI features draw from. You can view counts of internal content already available and add external sources to expand what the AI can reference.Internal sources
Disco AI can reference the following internal content:- Content and collections
- Documents uploaded to your media library
- Video (live or uploaded)
- Disco channel messages
- Slack channel messages
- Feed posts
Add external sources
You can add external sources directly from the Sources page.- Links: use for individual web pages. When you add a link, set its Scope. Single Page crawls only that specific URL. Linked Pages crawls that page and follows its linked pages, so a single link with Linked Pages scope can cover a large amount of content.
- Knowledge Base: use for larger, structured resources from platforms like Notion, Zendesk, or Pylon. The source must be publicly accessible.
Data usage and privacy
Disco only uses the sources you provide to generate AI responses in your workspace. Your data is not sent to model providers like OpenAI and is not used to train any external AI models. AI responses are generated in real time based on your specific sources. Those sources are isolated to your account. They are not accessible to other customers and are not used in other Disco workspaces.FAQ
